Dress Uniforms -
Each member is encouraged to purchase dress uniforms for wear
during living history demonstrations, and other occasions as appropriate.
Dress uniforms, when worn, will depict those normally worn by WWII 17th
Airborne Division soldiers during May 1945, and will consist of the
following:
1.) Eisenhower ("Ike") or 4-pocket dress jacket
2.)
Mustard wool shirt
3.)
Mustard wool trousers
4.)
Cotton khaki tie
5.)
Garrison cap with blue (Infantry) piping and early war parachute infantry
or late- war para-glider patch.
6.)
Standard khaki/tan web trouser belt with open buckle
7.)
Brown Cap Toe Jump Boots with "spit-shine".
8.)
US and branch insignia
9.)
Cut edge WWII type 17th Airborne Division shoulder sleeve insignia.
10.)
Stripes or officer rank insignia, as appropriate
Notes:
1. US/branch insignia, distinctive unit insignia, rank insignia and shoulder
sleeve insignia will be worn in accordance with WWII uniform regulations.
2. Additional dress items may be authorized by HQ Staff.
Combat Uniforms -
Each member, must provide his own combat uniform and
equipment. Combat uniforms will depict those normally worn by WWII 513th PIR
members at or before the time of the jump over the Rhine (M1943 Combat Suit
with cut edge 17th Airborne Division
insignia on the left sleeve and 48 star US flag on the right sleeve), and
will consist of the following as a minimum:
1.) M1943 Combat Jump Suit.
2.)
Stripes or officer rank insignia, as appropriate.
3.)
Olive/Khaki tank top or t-shirt - Dutch, repro or original.
4.)
Brown Cap Toe Jump Boots or Double Buckle Combat Boots.
5.)
M1C Jump Helmet complete with airborne liner and netting.
6.)
Standard khaki/tan web trouser belt with open black buckle.
7.)
M1938 or M1942 Leather Riding Glove.
8.)
M1941 Knit Wool "Jeep Cap".
9.)
M1936 Pistol Belt with rigger pouches or M1923 10 pocket cartridge belt.
10.) M1936 Suspender.
11.)
M1936 Musette Bag.
12.)
M1910 Canteen, Cup and Carrier.
13.)
M1942 First Aid Pouch with metal Carlisle bandage tin and contents.
14.)
M1943 Folding Entrenching Tool and Carrier.
15.)
M3 Fighting Knife in M3 or M6 Leather Sheath.
16.)
WWII type brown plastic Corps of Engineers wrist compass.
Notes:
1. Rank and shoulder sleeve insignia will be worn in accordance with WWII
uniform regulations.
2. Use of olive drab equipment is authorized, when mixed with khaki items.
Additional uniform and equipment items are authorized, if approved by the HQ
Staff.
3. Although shoulder sleeve insignia were not worn on the M1943 Combat Suit
during Operation Varsity for security reasons, 17th Airborne Division unit
personnel WILL wear the shoulder sleeve insignia for the purposes of
identifying our unit at reenacting events.
Authorized Weapons -
Each member must provide his own weapon, which will
consist of at least one of the following:
M1903-A3 Springfield
M1 Garand
M1A1 Carbine
M1928 or M1 Thompson Submachinegun
M3 "Greasegun"
M1918-A2 BAR
M1919 Browning
M1911 Colt (Only as a secondary weapon)
Notes:
1. Semi-automatic versions of the automatic weapons listed above are
authorized.
2. Full-auto weapons MUST have proper registration with the BATF.
Decorations, Awards, Badges and
Patch Wear Criteria -
Wear of common combat badges, I.E.; Combat Star to the
Parachute Badge, Combat Infantryman's Badge and Combat Medical Badge will be
restricted to dress uniforms, must be approved by HQ Staff and will conform
with the individual's first-person impression or persona.
Wear of valor or individual combat service decorations or
awards, I.E.; Silver or Bronze Star, Purple Heart, etc., will be restricted
to those who have EARNED them during actual service in the US military.
***Unit members have 6 months to purchase the basic
uniform items and 12 months to purchase all uniform and equipment items
needed to do the impression.***
